There are often homecoming shows by local favorites, but a homecoming New Years Eve no-holds-barred blowout by local legends who have sold records numbering in the millions, spanning decades, is a special treat for all Pittsburgh rock fans. Rusted Root's special place in Pittsburgh music history may be matched only by Pittsburgh's special place within Rusted Root's heart. "Living in our hometown helps keep us grounded and focused," says singer Liz Berlin; "Pittsburgh means so much to us as a band. The city, the people, the community are the womb where Rusted Root gestated, birthed and has thrived all these years. It is the home we can always come back to." Singer Michael Glabicki adds, "Pittsburgh is home. It's family. It is our protection. It's the perfect place to create something original. Pittsburgh is full of working class heroes."
Having collaborated with one another for two decades, Rusted Root, has honed the perfect combination of musical intuition, freedom and virtuosity, which has allowed them to organically shape shift their music into their own distinct and undeniable vision. With eight albums under their belt, over three million records sold worldwide, and countless nights on the road, Rusted Root transcends age, generations, cultures and musical styles. Their music has been featured in films like Ice Age, Twister and Matilda, TV shows like New Girl, Ally McBeal, Charmed, and Chuck as well as recent Enterprise Rent-A-Car commercials.
In a career loaded with now-mythical live performances, Rusted Root's hometown shows have consistently raised the bar for the band's particular brand of collective live performance, a collective that – at its dizzying heights – both feeds and feasts from the energy in the room. The powerhouse ensemble's sweat-inducing and hypnotic live performances have allowed them to tour alongside everyone from the Grateful Dead, Santana, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page's reunion tour, and countless others. As 2013 bows to 2014, Rusted Root is preparing to bow to the greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts live experience that is a Rusted Root performance in its beloved home town. The camaraderie, sheer love for musical experimentation, and desire to break down musical boundaries come full circle as Rusted Root themselves come full circle with their most devoted audience in the band's return to Pittsburgh for this very special New Year's Eve extravaganza.
