Event Description
Smithsonian's History of America in 101 Objects

Experience a new history of America as told through its treasures.

Join the History Center and the Smithsonian's Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, Richard Kurin, for an inside look at the new best-selling book, “The Smithsonian’s History of America in 101 Objects.” Discover the stories of iconic artifacts from key historical moments, from President Lincoln’s stovepipe hat to the Star-Spangled Banner. Learn how Dr. Kurin and his team from the Smithsonian determined which objects were included in the book and which have ties to Western Pennsylvania.

Following the talk, the History Center will host a book signing with Dr. Kurin.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the museum shop.

This public program is in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution.
