“Sheer enjoyment! Outshines all the rest in originality, music, humor and social value…Santa Monica Playhouse consistently creates new musicals that grab children’s attention. Barnyard Madness mixes elements of 1940s boogie-woogie, Grand Ole Opry-type vaudeville and a Romeo and Juliet story line.” L.A. PARENT
The year is 1947. It is spring, and Magnolia McPig is in love. Her sisters, Mae Belle and Minerva, proprietors of “Porkie’s Truck Stop and Diner", would have no objections, except that the object of her affection is Clarence Wolfman, C.P.A. Magnolia does not understand why family quarrels or differences in background should make any difference to a real relationship.
But, the McPig sisters have problems of their own. The business at Porkie’s is failing and their dreams of making it big as the Singin’ McPig Sisters are nothing but pie in the sty. When Clarence’s cousin, Loupie Wolfman, a true wolf in sheep’s clothing, offers them the chance to globalize their little diner, they fall for her plan, hook, line and sinker. Clarence, a workaholic at heart, is enlisted to help. Whereas Clarence is guided by matters of the heart, Loupie is led by matters of the stomach.
Will Magnolia and Clarence confess their true feelings for each other, proving that not all wolves masquerade in sheep’s clothing? Will the McPig sisters howl Loupie out of town? Have the Wolfmans cried wolf once too often? Come on down and help the swingin' McPig sisters save their beloved Porky's and prove that love and friendship don't depend on anything but what's in your heart.
“Kid fun! With a Romeo and Juliet quality in that size, age, color, ‘species’, background, nationality and family quarrels shouldn’t get in the way of romance.” THE OUTLOOK
