Event Description

Verb Ballets returns to The Breen Center for the Performing Arts with a program inspired by fusion of culture and music. Featured on the program is the world premiere of a ballet by William Anthony, an American choreographer currently working in Denmark. The work fuses Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No. 1 and African drumming led by Linda Thomas Jones, Sogbety Diomande and Baba Jubal. Associate Director, Richard Dickinson’s new work, Cowboy Soul, combines the swagger of John Wayne with the discipline of classical ballet. Set to instrumental versions of the greatest cowboy songs is a playful romp reminiscing on old western movies of yesteryear. Terence Greene’s, The Gathering (2009), will be revived. In this work, “human conflict abounds in frenetic gestures, though the potential for healing brings the narrative to a hopeful close,” as described by Donald Rosenberg. Greene was just named a 2014 Prestigious Creative Workforce Fellow through The Community Partnership for Arts and Culture of Cuyahoga County.

Join the cast and crew after the show for a post show party. Mix and mingle with dancers and choreographers following the performance at The Transformer Station just minutes from the theatre. New York Magazine named the gallery a best destination to, “See Cutting Edge Contemporary Art in Cleveland”. Admission $17 per guest and is available at checkout.
