The Pittsburgh Winery welcomes The Chalk Outlines, Pittsburgh's purveyors of sophisticated garage R&B, to the cellar stage on Saturday, May 17th.
The sharp-dressed five-piece band has been gigging around town for a little over a year, and is quickly developing a reputation for performing early rock & roll and stomping r&b gems, flavored with a dash of rootsy country and a touch of New Orleans spice. Their repertoire of tunes about hard luck and trouble has kept audiences dancing and singing along with abandon.
Formed in early 2013 for a special performance at the National Cartoonists Society's annual awards weekend, The Chalk Outlines exhibited their signature humor and showmanship on the historic Grand Ballroom stage of the William Penn Hotel. Their most recent performances were a pair of holiday shows in November, which featured classic rocking yuletide numbers, and band favorites rewritten with seasonal lyrics.
This show marks the band's first appearance at the Pittsburgh Winery's cellar showcase, and they're eager to shake the rafters. TCO drummer Dave Klug said, "As soon as we saw the room, we all agreed that we had to play here. Being underground and surrounded by wine barrels made us feel right at home."
Showtime is 8:30 PM sharp. Speakeasy attire is encouraged.
The Chalk Outlines are:
Brian Gates (guitar & vocals)
Dave Klug (drums & vocals)
Hank Lawhead (guitar & vocals)
Jeff Stringer (bass & vocals)
Wayno (lead vocals & harmonica)
