May 29, 2014 – Pelham, NY –  Paul Haggis, the award-winning filmmaker who, in 2006, became the first screenwriter to write two consecutive Best Picture Oscar winners - Million Dollar Baby (Best Picture 2006) directed by Clint Eastwood, and Crash (Best Picture 2005) which Haggis also directed, will be at The Picture House on Thursday, June 5th at 7pm to screen his latest film, Third Person, which opens to limited release nationwide on June 20th. The special advance screening and post-film discussion will be hosted by The Picture House’s new critic-in-residence, Marshall Fine.

Third Person, written and directed by Haggis, which features an impressive cast including Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Adrien Brody, Mila Kunis, James Franco, Maria Bello, Moran Atlas, and Kim Basinger, tells the interlocking love stories of three couples in three cities: Rome, Paris, and New York. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

Haggis won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay for Crash. The film also received an additional four nominations, including one for Haggis' direction. Crash reaped numerous awards during its year of release from associations such as the IFP Spirit Awards, the Screen Actors Guild, and BAFTA. In 2006, Haggis' screenplays included the dual Clint Eastwood productions Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, the latter earning him his third screenplay Oscar nomination. He also helped pen Casino Royale, which garnered considerable acclaim for reinvigorating the James Bond spy franchise.

In 2007, Haggis wrote, directed, and produced suspense drama In the Valley of Elah which starred Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, and Susan Sarandon. Jones earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in the film.

Haggis was born in London, Ontario, Canada and moved to California in his early 20s. For over two decades he has written, directed, and produced television shows such as thirtysomething and The Tracey Ullman Show, Due South, The Black Donnellys and also developed credits as a young writer on many 'Norman Lear' sitcoms. He also created the acclaimed CBS series EZ Streets which the New York Times cited as one of the most influential shows of all time, noting, that without it "there would be no Sopranos."

Renowned film critic Marshall Fine (hollywoodadfine.com) will host another advance screening and post-film discussion of WHITEY: United States of America V. James J. Bulger with Academy Award nominated director Joe Berlinger on Monday, June 16th at 7pm. The Picture House Film Club with Marshall Fine which debuts in October will offer six-film screenings in each of three series—fall, winter, and spring. Tickets will go on sale for The Picture House members on June 2nd and for the general public on June 14th.
