Metal Art Show

Metal, the word alone calls to mind a fury of images, materials, sensations, and sounds.

Blackbird Tattoo and Gallery brings back the art of the art party this month with a collab concept show featuring creators of every kind.  Nashville artists Philip Saxby and David Noel Art join the Blackbird gallery team of Matt Wolf and Shannon Wages to proudly bring together over 40 local and national artists, musicians, even jewelers and hair dressers, for your brutal, metalish sensory overload.

The long list of visionaries and "alchemists" includes Nashville creative staples Charles Bennett, Jeff Bertrand, Miranda Herrick, Audie Adams, Brandt Hardin, AJ Illustration, and Valerie Harrell bringing their visions metallurgy to hang by the likes of Ash Sivils, Tommy Holt, and Jerome Epstein, artists whose dark vibes and unusual materials seem to echo the theme itself.   Metal scultper Kevin Robertson adds his eerily still, erector-like creations, alongside canvas-types like Rachel Napier, Mai Harris, Jonny Lashley, Colby Hunter, Justin Gill, Matthew Dutton, Burn 353, Vince Herrera, Chip Boles, Trevor Collin Bradshaw, Omari Booker, and Evan Davis.  Out of towners Matt Simone (Bowling Green, KY), Greg Birdsong (Clarksdale, MS), Mitch Soper (San Franciso), and Alex Rodriguez (Seattle), Nico Duque (Chicago),  Julius Woods (Marietta, GA), and Ryan Gray (Tupelo, MS) contribute pieces to the slayings.  Stylist AmyRose Blackstockings of Hocus Pocus Boutique adds her dark flair for black hair, and Chattanooga jewely maker Virginia Child displays her dark bone and metal compositions available for purchase.

And what would a metal show be without the obligatory arpeggios and double-kick?  Metal music naturals Layne Meylain and Mason Crooks (Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza) and scene veterans Rachel (Lotus Halo) and Jim Valosik (Serotonin) of Forrest of Tygers will have tracks available for listening, in addition to tracks from rival music genre members Kid Dead, Ashleigh Caudill, Disco Terror Squad, and Mom Hair (brainchild of photographer EJ Holmes and singer-songwriter Rorey Carroll).

The metal goes down Saturday, May 3 at 8pm at Blackbird's Franklin Pike location.  Smoke Signals Barbeque will be on hand to settle your appetite and cocktails as brutal as you can handle will be served for those partaking in the adult bevs.

Get your studded vests and leather skirts out, y’all, this is gonna bang!  Doors open April 26 at 8pm, drinkers at $15, non-drinkers at $10, but you can pick 'em up in advance at Blackbird, Grimey's, or online at:  http://getik.it/3823450?t for the reduced price of $12 for the drinkers, and $7 for those abstaining. VIP available.  Bring your pocketbook, because art and retail will be for sale.
