“Imitation of Wife: An Unauthorized Autobiography” has been one of those rare instances where a show developed from its parody-of-a-title, rather than the other way around. After six months of gathering music, movie dialogue, and shaping and re-shaping the storyline, the concept has developed into a show that has received acclaim across all demographics. This show premiered in November 2010 at the East Theatre in the Dairy Center for the Performing Arts in Boulder, Colorado, and enjoyed three subsequent sold-out runs.
To tell this story, a soundtrack of movie dialogue and music has been borrowed from the past 80 years. It took only slightly less than 80 years to splice this all together.
This interactive, fast-paced comedy is presented in a series of “musical vignettes” that are introduced verbally by the main character as she goes through her life.
Some of the music will be familiar and some will be new; but even the familiar has been pieced together in surprising ways. Enjoy!
