Event Description
Fellowship for International Service and Health (FISH) is a student-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designed to provide service to the under-served in the community of Tijuana, Mexico. The organization was founded in the University of California, Los Angeles and both programs primarily comprise of undergraduate students passionate about aiding those most in need.
FISH participates in several types of services throughout the year that range from providing healthcare services free of charge to aiding in orphanages. In conjunction with Dr. Garcia of UABC, FISH aids in measuring blood pressure and glucose levels while promoting diabetes and health awareness in Tecate, Mexico. The students also aid in the orphanages Ninos de la Promesa and Casa Hogar several times throughout the quarter by bringing donations such as toiletries, clothing and food while providing crafting activities or playing games with the children. These children were rescued from unfortunate living conditions such as parents suffering from drug addictions or prostitution that manifest in areas like the Red Light District. In addition, a new collaboration with Amor Mission Trip was initiated this current school year to build homes for families in need. Our current project focuses on the Rodriguez family in Terrazas del Valle of Tijuana whose current home comprises of tar paper and roof paper as their roof while their walls comprise of used lumber. The family of four lives on the father's earning of $100 per week as a graveyard attendant.
Connecting with those whom we aid and knowing that our contribution no matter how big or small makes a difference, is what continues the organization’s passion for service. Most importantly, services provided are possible due to the opportunity to collaborate with organizations such as those mentioned.
