Event Description

Tickets give you access to all of the DCS International Piano Competition & Masterclass events held at SMU's Meadows School of the Arts. The event is ticketed, but admission is FREE, so come on down, bring the whole family, and watch it live.


The DCS International Piano Competition is presented in celebration of the piano and its extensive repertoire, offering important performance opportunities to aspiring young performers from all over the world. Three rounds of competition take place before an internationally renowned jury panel, and prizes are awarded for the most outstanding performances.


 


MASTERCLASS with ACHUCARRO & LEONE


Wednesday, March 12, 2014 — 12:00pm to 3:00pm


O’Donnel Hall — Meadows School of the Arts — Free Admission


Six pianists are invited to participate in public piano lessons, taught by Joaquin Achucarro and Dr. Carol Leone. Audiences are welcome to observe.


 




ROUND 1 – QUARTER-FINALS


Thursday, March 13, 2014 — 9:00am to 5:40pm


Caruth Auditorium — Meadows School of the Arts — Free Admission


Each of the 18 Quarter-finalists shall receive a maximum performance time of 20 minutes in Round 1. Contestants perform their repertoire for piano and orchestra, accompanied by a second pianist who performs the orchestral reduction.  Judges may stop the contestant at any time to ask for different movements or sections.  Audiences are welcome to observe.  Round 1 results will be announced at 6pm. The round is free and open to the public, and audience members can enter and exit between contestants at 20-minute increments.


 




ROUND 2 – SEMI-FINALS


Friday, March 14, 2014 — 9:00am to 12:40pm


Caruth Auditorium — Meadows School of the Arts — Free Admission


Each of the 10 Semi-finalists shall receive a maximum performance time of 20 minutes in Round 2. Contestants perform from their repertoire for solo piano. Judges may stop the contestant at any time to ask for different sections or repertoire. Round 2 results will be announced at 4pm. The round is free and open to the public, and audience members can enter and exit between contestants at 20-minute increments.

Friday, March 14, 2014 — 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Six pianists are invited to participate in public piano lessons, taught by Joaquin Achucarro and Dr. Carol Leone. Audiences are welcome to observe.


 




ROUND 3 – FINALS


Saturday, March 15, 2013 — 1:00pm to 5:00pm


Caruth Auditorium — Meadows School of the Arts — Free Admission


Each of the 5 finalists shall perform their entire concerto, or piece for piano and orchestra, without interruption, accompanied by a second pianist who performs the orchestral reduction. There are no time limits in the final round. The round is free and open to the public, and audience members can enter and exit between contestants.
