Color Me Happy Exhibit Opening Event

The 1950’s were a simpler and happier time. At least that’s what our parents and grandparents have been telling us for the past several decades. Most of what the current generation knows of the 50’s is culled from witty memes using clip art inspired from that decade. But for children of the fifties they have fond memories of not clip art, but coloring books filled with their favorite celebrities. The ToonSeum returns to that nostalgic era with this exhibition of original coloring book art from Western Publishing with the ToonSeum adding a modern comedic twist!
The ToonSeum has invited some of Pittsburgh brightest and funniest comedic minds to create their own captions for the artwork on display! Terry Jones, Aaron Kleiber, Mike Buzelli, Eric Heyl, Rob Rogers and the Arcade Comedy Theater troupe are just a few of the comedians lending their talent to this exhibition.
On February 7th at the opening for Color Me Happy you will have the chance to meet some of these comedic quoters and try to outwit them by creating your own caption (keep it clean!) The top ones each week will be posted on our facebook and twitter. Feel free to post your own as well! #toonseum
About the Exhibit:
Most of the artwork in this exhibition was created by Florence Sarah Winship, while her name may not be immediately recognizable, she was a prolific illustrator creating hundreds of children’s books and coloring books for Western and Whitman Publishing.
Featuring iconic celebrities of the day such as Dinah Shore and Doris Day as well as scenes from daily life, coloring books are a snapshot of a time gone by, and a chance to view a generation through the rose colored glasses of their childhood.
The festivities begin at 7pm on February 7th at the ToonSeum. Tickets will be available online for $15.00 or $20.00 at the door.
