Several current CMU music students and alumni have designed an educationally interactive event to enhance your concert experience this evening. The musicians encourage you to visit the stations, learn about the music, and socialize with the orchestra before, during intermission, and after the concert. Activities begin at 6:30 pm.

Pre-Concert:

Tweet Seats Meet Up
Meet Lance LaDuke, curator of CMUMusic’s Tweet Seats. The tech staff can set you up with a Twitter account and show you how to access real-time concert commentary.

Musician Mingle
Orchestra members are eager meet you before the concert and demonstrate their instruments, play passages from the concert repertoire, and answer any questions.

Books & Media
Would you like to peruse a copy of Romeo & Juliet or follow the conductor’s score during the performance? The music staff of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has provided a selection of books, CDs and music scores for your enjoyment. These resources are available to browse or to check out on site.

Intermission:

Romeo&Juliet@Intermission
Intermission offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the story of Romeo and Juliet told through Prokofiev’s unique musical language. CMU School of Music alumnus Evan Vockley will give a brief presentation in the lobby about Prokofiev and his Shakespeare-inspired work heard tonight. He will connect elements of his lobby presentation with specific sections of the music during the performance through real-time posts via Tweet Seats.

Post Concert:

Meet & Greet and Autographs
As you exit the hall, stop in the lobby and chat with with Maestro Andrés Cárdenes and soloist Joshua Burca.  Bring your program to get it autographed!

After Party @ The Porch
Join the orchestra for a post-concert hang, food, and drinks at the Porch, just across Schenley Plaza.

TWEET SEATS:
Tweet Seats refer to seats in which tweeting is permitted during a performance by audience members. Carnegie Mellon School of Music is launching this new pilot project to encourage a subsection of our audience to engage in an online discussion about the performance they are experiencing. We ask that Tweet Seat participants sit in the second balcony of Carnegie Music Hall with their phones silenced and dim back-light to lowest setting.

Utilizing the hashtag #CMUCardenes, participants will engage in an online conversation with School of Music faculty members Lance LaDuke and Daniel Nesta Curtis who will be leading the discussion from @CMUMusic. Feel free to tweet reactions to the performance or ask questions.
