1970. USA. Directed by Stephanie Rothman. Screenplay by Rothman, Don Spencer, Charles S. Swartz. Rothman is the only woman to direct a Roger Corman production, and this is the first in her popular Nurses cycle of exploitation films. Despite working within the confines of the exploitation genre, Rothman introduced feminist ideas and subjects into her work. An early and popular consciousness-raising film of the modern Women’s Movement, it was also one of the first to explore the internal and external pressures a girl confronts in finding her identity.
