The ToonSeum to Host Special Presentation with Award Winning Herstorian Trina Robbins


 The ToonSeum will welcome award-winning comic writer, artist and “herstorian” Trina Robbins for a special presentation to kick-off the start of the Pittsburgh Indy Comics Weekend.


Ms. Robbins is a pioneer in the independent comic’s movement. She is an author, artist, historian and activist. Ms. Robbins has curated multiple volumes of comics anthologies aimed at promoting women in comics and penned numerous books on the subject. 


The event begins at 7:30pm on March 20th, 2014 at the ToonSeum. Admission tickets are $10.00 and $5.00 for members.


About PIX: 


PIX is devoted solely to creator-owned, self-published, small-press, and handmade comics, artists books and other visual works. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The event will give Pittsburghers the opportunity to survey and sample a wide variety of works produced by the far ranging talents of the comics artists and cartoonists currently flourishing in the Pittsburgh region as well as meet and interact with the creators themselves. In addition, PIX attendees can expect to experience examples of independently produced and published, creator-owned work from the rest of North America and around the world. www.pixcomix.org


 


About Trina:


Trina Robbins has been writing books, comics, and graphic novels for over forty years. Her 2009 book, The Brinkley Girls: the Best of Nell Brinkley’s Cartoons from 1913-1940 (Fantagraphics), and her 2011 book, "Tarpe Mills and Miss Fury," were nominated for Eisner awards and Harvey awards. Her all-ages graphic novel, Chicagoland Detective Agency: The Drained Brains Caper, first in a 6-book series, was a Junior Library Guild Selection. Her graphic novel, Lily Renee: Escape Artist, was awarded a gold medal from Moonbeam Chidren’s Books and a silver medal from Sydney Taylor Jewish Library Awards. Trina’s most recent book is Pretty in Ink, her final and definitive history of women cartoonists. In 2013, Trina Robbins was voted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
