In his multi-media performance "Special Effect", Peter Burr (CARTUNE XPREZ) becomes the live presenter of a television show featuring new works commissioned from leading animators. Inspired by ‘the zone’ in Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1979 sci-fi film "Stalker", with the aid of a hacked Kinect camera, hand-knitted costumes, Burr enacts an imagined television show from the future - channeling our subconscious and co-opting our illusions.

Contributors: James Duesing, Amy Lockhart, Yoshi Sodeoka, Billy Grant, Michael Bell-Smith, Ola Vasiljeva, Jacob Ciocci, Andrew Benson, Jeff Kriksciun, Chad VanGaalen, Philippe Blanchard, E*Rock, Luke Painter, Brandon Blommaert, Stu Hughes, Devin Flynn, Michael Robinson, Sabrina Ratté, and Brenna Murphy.

Special Effect stops in Pittsburgh as part of a year-long tour including screenings at Lauba (Croatia), Strzelski Gallerie (Germany), WORM (Netherlands), European Media Arts Festival, Museum of the Moving Image, TBA Festival, Cineworks. Pleasuredome, and POP Montreal among many others.

Burr belongs to a network of DIY underground cartoonists and musicians called CARTUNE XPREZ. He has roots in Pittsburgh, graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Art.

Show written by Peter Burr, Maya Lubinsky, and PFFR.
Costumes by Diana Joy. Computer programming by Mike Heavers.
