Event Description

Includes the following films:

Igor: The Paris Years Chez Pleyel

1982. Great Britain. Directed by the Quay Brothers. Borrowing liberally from Vladimir Mayakovksy’s poem “A Little Chat with the Eiffel Tower” (1925), the film combines live-action and humorous puppet characterizations of composer Igor Stravinsky, artist Jean Cocteau, and Futurist writer Mayakovsky to relate the story of the musician’s tenure at a Parisian piano roll factory in the 1920s. 25 min.

Punch and Judy: Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy

1980. Great Britain. Directed by the Quay Brothers. The most straightforward of the Griffith-Quay documentaries, it examines the history of the famed puppet characters with bold strokes of performance and ironic commentary. 52 min.
