His wife and muse Alma Reville wants him to consider a script by Whitfield Cook, a notorious industry flirt, while Hitchcock is obsessed with the Robert Bloch novel Psycho, itself based on the heinous real-life crimes of Ed Gein. Hitchcock owes Paramount one more picture and the studio wants a guaranteed blockbuster, and he winds up financing Psycho himself when the studio balks at the project. A cheeky biopic rife with occasional winks to the audience, Hitchcock ably illustrates what made the Hitchcock/Reville marriage work for more than 50 years, and how the Master of Suspense created an iconic film that still scares us whenever we pull back the shower curtain.
