Sat. Jun 27, 2009 9:00pm GMT-5 (EST)
Come help us celebrate the venue that's consistently been bringing you eclectic live music, a great vibe, and a unique place to chill for NINE years! Performing will be The Beatnuts, Keelay and Zaire, KRTS, Dawn Canon, and more!
The Beatnuts
The Beatnuts are a New York-based hip hop group and production duo from Queens, New York City. Its current members are JuJu and Psycho Les. JuJu is a Dominican from Corona and Psycho Les is a Colombian from Jackson Heights. The Beatnuts are the only Latino members of the Native Tongues Family. Although only peripheral members, they are routinely acknowledged by Q-Tip, who has shouted them out at least twice on record (once in 1991 and once in 1996). The Beatnuts were originally a trio before Kool Fashion, now known as Al' Tariq, left the group to start a solo career. The Mighty V.I.C. (Groove Merchantz, Ghetto Pros) was also a member of the Beatnuts' production team for a while.

Keelay and Zaire
Keelay and Zaire, who just released Riding High, will be in the building! Keelay & Zaire are a bi-coastal team that operates with only one concrete rule; creating music with unlimited range. In their debut LP Ridin High, the pair's versatility takes center stage, backed up by a talented cast of emcees and singers including Phonte of Little Brother, Supastition, Blu, Cali Agents, Darien Brockington, Tash of Tha Liks, Saafir, Fortilive, The Park, Emilio Rojas, Surreal ,Slo-Mo, and Tiffany Paige. Keelay & Zaire's Ridin High was released on March 10th by MYX Music Label.
Aside from their production savvy, Kee & Zee also invite audiences to come into their world and see that there's much more to the music than what appears. Whether it be from comedic video blogs detailing beat construction to more serious topics like political activism, Kee & Zee show the world that their artistry is not only far from one dimensional, but full of the creative vigor that connects with the masses on multiple levels.

KRTS
1984, Halloween night and the young boy is ready to put on his Go-Bots costume on, and escaping the McDonalds drive-in with a happy meal. A Blue Chevet carrying the happy four-year-old black male, and his father driving. "Hey Kurt, I have something you're gonna like." His father says with a hint in his voice that the cassette he is placing inside the deck is going to blow the four-year-old child's mind. I read the title of the album, "Are you Afraid of.." The track comes on with haunting samples, distortions, and melodies that are soft and manipulated. The song sounds like a garage with power tools creating music to the boy. His mind ventures through realms he's never viewed inside his mind. His heart races with excitement, and an energy never spoken before. He clenches harder to the empty cassette case. "The Art of Noise", as his father grins paying attention to the street going towards home. Kurtis Hairston was in no way, afraid of the art of noise. Instead he embraced it. Held tightly to it, and it became the basis behind his side of electronic music. And then, is how it began.
