The unique ensemble "Bulgare" returns to the Broadway stage in NYC for second time after their first sold out performance in 2009. This time they are coming to show us "Bulgaria through the Centuries". This second massive project of the folk company shook again the Bulgarian audience with its dramatic presentation and showmanship. No one expected that "Bulgare" would be so different. While in the first show "This is Bulgaria", there was mainly dancing, here, the show includes actors, acrobats, stunts, and fighters.
The show presents a journey through the history of Bulgaria starting with the time of Khan Kubrat (632 A.D) and finishing with the 20th century. Khan Asparuh, St. Cyril and Methodius, King Ivan Asen II, Genral Gurko and other popular people from the history of Bulgaria come to live on the stage. One of the most dramatic elements of the show is the depiction of the fall of Bulgaria under the Ottoman dominion. The dramatic image of Kocho, based on Ivan Vasov's story by the same name, leaves a permanent impact on the spectators. Profsessor Milcho Vassilev wrote the music which sounds more like a soundtrack of a movie rather than a folklore presentation. Albena Veskova(ex vocalist of the Le Mystere des voix Bulgares) is the soloist of the ensemble and she delivers a stunning performance of both the folk songs and the church chants. Hristo Dimitrov created the script, the choreography, and the stage directing of the show.
