About the Beneficiary:
Established in 1992, Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) is an independent research institute and one of the largest research facilities in the nation that focuses solely on reproductive biology, women’s health and infants’ health.
Ovarian Cancer:
Ovarian cancer is the most serious of all gynecologic cancers. It is estimated that about 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed this year in the United States. An estimated one in 58 women will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime. Unfortunately, there is no way to screen for this cancer.
A Fighting Chance:
Magee's gynecologic oncology researchers hope to not only improve patient cure rates prolonging life, but also to enhance the quality of life, too. This will be achieved as they delve into and design patient-specific therapies. Your support helps them uncover these answers and more, so that every woman after surgery can know what challenges lie ahead and what will be successful in her battle with cancer.
