the all-for-nots

For fans of “This Is Spinal Tap” and “Flight of the Conchords,” there’s a new buzz-worthy series called “The All-For-Nots.” The program debuts at 7:45 p.m. Sunday on HDNet, a TV channel available to high-definition TV owners.
The premiere episode of “The All-For-Nots” also screens Tuesday at the trendy South by Southwest Musical Festival in Austin, Texas.
After that, Web users can log onto www.theallfornots.com to watch the weekly escapades of a quasi-fictional band that includes drummer Erica Harsch, an Ambridge, PA native.
Harsch plays Shirley, the quiet one, who used to be Amish. Now Shirley (and consequently Harsch) finds herself in a band that touts itself as a “synth-pop-indie-electro-folk-emo-dance-gazer-punk-Americana-pop-progressive-rock band.”
Love the concept, but the jury is still out on whether shows aired solely on the web will get the support they need from corporate/network sponsors and viewers. It seems like they are a great success on-line, then some genius tries to put it on a major network, where it fails (see Quarterlife).

whitney’s return
So happy to be airbrushed!
Clive Davis >says Whitney Houston is on track to release a new album by the holidays. It would be Houston’s first album of original material since 2002. There are 4 tracks recorded to date, including collaborations with will.i.am and Akon.
Will Whitney’s comeback could set the stage for another *ahem* troubled pop star’s return to the spotlight?
Hopefully, Whitney will stay true to her style, and her voice will be as strong and as amazing as ever!

vh1 scrapes bottom of barrel for fall
Not any more!!!
I am totally disgusted by the new fall lineup on VH1. The suits have obviously given up on originality and good taste. Remember when VH1 was the alternative to MTV because it actually played videos? Good luck finding them now!
From Variety:VH1 has added four new reality shows to its fall 2008 lineup. They include: seven half-hour episodes of The Cho Show, starring standup comedian Margaret Cho; eight episodes of Luke’s Parental Advisory, which follows 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell as he balances parenting and producing adult videos; 10 episodes of Brooke Hogan Knows Best, which follows Hulk Hogan’s daughter as she moves to Miami to get away from her strict father; and New York Goes to Hollywood, the latest spin-off based on former Flavor of Love contestant Tiffany ”New York” Pollard, this time focusing on her attempt to become a professional actress.
Margaret Cho = obnoxious
Luther Campbell = who’s he?!?!
Brooke Hogan = beat
Tiffany ”New York” Pollard = desperate
VH1 = Laughable D-listers First

what i’m listening to: ingrid michaelson

I’m in deep swoon over Ingrid Michaelson!
The Staten Islander’s songs first gained attention on no fewer than four episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. More recently, her single ”The Way I Am” popped up in an Old Navy TV ad.
Michaelson is rapidly becoming THE deft mistress of quirk folk. She looks like Lisa Loeb (mahogany locks, librarian eyeglasses) but sings with summery charm. Her independently released second album, Girls and Boys (out now), is a grassroots phenomenon that’s climbed from obscurity into the upper echelons of iTunes.
Check out Ingrid Michaelson LIVE (Pittsburgh 3/27 @ Mr. Smalls!)
And check out the video of “The Way I Am”–my new favorite song!
