Event Description

Parade is a true story about an incident that occurred 100 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia. The lush and varied music, written by the popular Broadway composer, Jason Robert Brown, creates a joyous but sometimes appropriately serious tone when a 13 year old girl is discovered murdered in the pencil factory where she worked. The superintendent Leo Frank, a Jew from Brooklyn who married a Southern woman from Georgia, is accused of the murder and the show takes on a riveting story of the court case and subsequent unfolding of what happened.

The reviews in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and City Paper have been compelling and complimentary to the cast, the acting, singing and staging of the show. It’s definitely a production you don’t want to miss!

At the time of the show, the setting is Georgia which remained in a mind-set of North versus South; wealthy versus poor; black versus white; and non-Jew versus Jew. Parade reveals the heartwarming and persistent efforts of Leo’s wife Lucille to reverse the injustice done to her husband.  The shows will be supplemented by educational talk back panels, and is appropriate for middle and high school students, in addition to adults.

The New Hazlett Theater is handicapped accessible. If you have any special needs, please inidcate them in the comment section below.
